SIUE Baseball Falls to Illinois State, Ending Four-Game Winning Streak
In a tough matchup, SIUE baseball suffered a 9-3 defeat against Illinois State on Wednesday. The loss broke the Cougars’ four-game winning streak, bringing their season record to 10-13. Illinois State, now at 10-13, built a commanding 9-0 lead in the first four innings, with the Cougars managing to score three runs later in the game.
Despite the loss, SIUE saw solid performances from Kyle Hepburn, Brendan Fry, and Gage Franck among others. Illinois State’s Ryan Weaver impressed with a career-high seven strikeouts.
Pitchers Brady Coon, Joseph Martin, Kyle Rossy, Andrew Ressler, Brennen Grams, and Gabriel Nutter also contributed to the game. The Cougars will next compete in a three-game series against Tennessee Tech in Cookeville, Tennessee, starting on Friday.
Overall, SIUE will be looking to bounce back from this loss and regain their winning momentum as they continue their Ohio Valley Conference play.
