Illinois football head coach Bret Bielema continues to build his coaching staff with the addition of Bart Miller as the offensive line coach. Miller, a graduate of Elk Grove High, has previous coaching experience with Bielema at Wisconsin, where they won three consecutive Big Ten titles. Miller has a track record of success, most recently with Wyoming where the team averaged over 200 rushing yards per game under his guidance.
The addition of Miller comes as Illinois looks to solidify its offensive line unit, with key returning players utilizing an extra year of eligibility offered by the NCAA. Despite the departure of left guard Kendrick Green for the NFL draft, the Illini have a veteran group led by seniors Doug Kramer, Alex Palczewski and Vederian Lowe. Younger linemen Verdis Brown, Julian Pearl, and transfer Blake Jeresaty will also provide depth.
The Illini offense showed promise in the most recent season, averaging 196 rushing yards and 153 passing yards per game. Miller’s expertise and experience will be crucial in further developing the offensive line and maintaining a strong ground game.
As Bielema continues to piece together his coaching staff, the addition of Miller brings proven success and familiarity with the head coach’s coaching style. Illinois fans can look forward to seeing the impact of Miller’s coaching on the offensive line in the upcoming season.
