Sudanese Army Accuses Libya’s Haftar of Coordinated Border Assault with RSF

Libya’s Involvement in Sudan’s Civil War Alleged Amid Rising Tensions

In a significant escalation of the protracted conflict in Sudan, the Sudanese army has accused Libyan military commander Khalifa Haftar of launching attacks on its border posts. This marks the first time Sudan has directly implicated Libya in its civil war, which is now entering its third year.

The Sudanese military alleges that Haftar’s forces collaborated with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), escalating the conflict that has already attracted international attention and intervention. Previous accusations earlier in the war pointed to Haftar supplying the RSF with weapons, which the Sudanese army claims have been reinforced by the United Arab Emirates (UAE), known for its military support of Haftar. The UAE has denied these allegations, despite claims that it conducted drone strikes in support of the RSF last month.

Army spokesman Nabil Abdallah stated that the recent attack occurred in the Libya-Egypt-Sudan border triangle, emphasizing it as "a blatant aggression against Sudan." He pledged that Sudan would defend its sovereignty against external conspiracies, indicating a broader regional conflict fueled by foreign involvement.

Furthermore, Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has labeled the assault a "dangerous escalation" and a "flagrant violation of international law," highlighting concerns that the border has become a conduit for arms and mercenaries.

While there was no immediate response from Haftar’s forces, a source within the RSF indicated that they have gained control over the entrance to Jebel Uweinat, a strategically important area where the borders of the three nations converge.

As peace efforts remain futile, the situation underscores the complexities of the conflict and the implications of foreign military influences in the region.
