Subpoenas and Scandals: Tiffany Henyard Faces Further Troubles

Federal Investigation Targets Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard Amid Allegations of Misconduct

Federal authorities are now conducting a criminal investigation into Mayor Tiffany Henyard’s administration in Dolton, Illinois, following her recent loss in the Democratic mayoral primary. The investigation includes a subpoena seeking extensive records from her time in office, coinciding with her defeat where she received just 12% of the vote against Dolton Village Trustee Jason House.

The subpoena aims to uncover communication records spanning from 2014 to the present, encompassing emails, phone calls, and text messages. Notably mentioned is Henyard’s boyfriend, Kamal Woods, who is linked to a contentious development project currently under federal review.

Henyard’s administration has been plagued by allegations of financial mismanagement, highlighted by a decline in the village’s general fund—dropping from a $5.6 million surplus in 2022 to a $3.6 million deficit in 2024. Legal challenges intensified with the indictment of village administrator Keith Freeman, accused of financial fraud for making false statements in his bankruptcy petition.

Critics have lambasted Henyard’s handling of the village’s finances. Activist Jedidiah Brown stated, “You want to talk about them not coming to work, but we’ve been hearing what you’ve been doing while you’ve been at work.” Meanwhile, Trustee House has vowed to restore transparency, stating, “Not only is Ms. Henyard depriving the public of what they deserve, it’s costing the village money.”

Trustee Tammie Brown echoed concerns, indicating that the subpoenas may lead to further investigations involving other businesses within the village. “We’ve got a long road ahead of us,” she remarked, addressing the consequences of Henyard’s administration.

As the investigation unfolds, Dolton’s future remains uncertain amidst allegations of severe mismanagement. John Baker covers U.S. politics & news for content partner Modern Newsstand LLC.
