Illinois State Baseball Triumphs Over Southern Illinois in High-Scoring Battle
CARBONDALE, Ill. – The Illinois State baseball team claimed an exciting 11-9 victory against Southern Illinois on Friday night at Itchy Jones Stadium. With this win, the Redbirds improved their overall record to 20-19 and remained competitive in the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) with a 10-6 mark.
The standout performance came from junior Shai Robinson, who delivered two hits and three RBIs, including a two-run home run that opened the scoring in the first inning. The Redbirds surged ahead with four runs in the second, highlighted by a two-run double from Kyle Gibson.
Despite the lead, Southern Illinois, now 28-13 overall, rallied to tie the game at 7-7 with a strong fourth inning. However, Illinois State responded with three runs in the fifth and a solo home run from Daniel Pacella in the eighth. The Salukis attempted a comeback, plating two runs in the eighth, but it wasn’t enough.
Luke Stulga extended his hitting streak to 15 games, while Joe Husak secured his 12th career save, tying him for second all-time in the program’s history. The two teams will face off again on Saturday at 2 PM.
