Highland Park Parade Shooter Sentenced to Life in Prison
Crest Hill, IL — Robert E. Crimo III has been sentenced to life in prison for his role in the tragic Fourth of July parade shooting in Highland Park, Illinois, in 2022. Following his guilty plea, Crimo received seven consecutive life sentences, one for each of the victims he killed during the mass shooting, along with an additional 50-year sentence for 48 counts of attempted murder, to be served concurrently.
The court heard harrowing testimonies from survivors and victims’ families, painting a vivid picture of the chaos that ensued. Witness Dana Ruder Ring described the scene, stating, "It went from watching a parade to utter chaos." She recalled the desperate need to flee as terror struck the crowd, emphasizing the instinct to keep moving rather than seek shelter.
Prosecutors presented chilling evidence that included accounts from those affected by the tragedy, highlighting the emotional toll on the community. Crimo, now transferred to Stateville Correctional Center, will spend the rest of his life behind bars, unable to appeal his sentence. The case serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact of gun violence on communities across America.
