Press Release: Jaxson Davis Crowned News-Gazette All-State Player of the Year
Warren Township sophomore Jaxson Davis has been named the 2025 News-Gazette All-State Player of the Year, highlighting a stellar season that led his team to the state runner-up finish. As a Class of 2027 prospect, Davis has already received offers from notable programs including Illinois, Northwestern, DePaul, and Eastern Illinois.
Expressing gratitude for the early recruitment interest, Davis stated, "I’m just grateful I was able to get recruited early on." He’s optimistic about further opportunities as spring approaches. Last fall, he visited the University of Illinois, where he explored the basketball program and connected with his family legacy; his father, Brian Davis, was a linebacker for the Illini.
In a tightly contested Class 4A state championship, Jaxson delivered an impressive performance with 17 points, eight assists, seven rebounds, and four steals despite a narrow 55-54 loss to Benet Academy. With the attendance of Illinois coaching staff, including Coach Brad Underwood, Jaxson Davis’s commitment to basketball and vision for his future remains strong. His father noted the importance of in-state talent and how the recruitment landscape has evolved, emphasizing Jaxson’s aspirations for collegiate and professional basketball.
