Illinois State University Graduate School has awarded Meghna Gogoi, an international student from India, with the GradBird Scholar recipient for April 2025. Gogoi is currently in her final semester of the sociology master’s program and stands out for her scholarly endeavors at the university. Her research focuses on interfaith marriages, exploring how upbringing and lived experiences influence these relationships. Gogoi’s work adds to sociological debates about structure versus agency and contributes valuable insights into identity formation and cultural hybridity in multicultural societies.

Gogoi’s dedication to her research has led to numerous accolades, including first place and Audience Choice Award in the Three Minute Thesis Competition at the Midwest Sociological Society Conference. She has also presented her work at various conferences and serves as a graduate teaching assistant and as a member of the Graduate Student Advisory Council. Through her research, Gogoi hopes to promote more inclusive conversations about religion, marriage, and identity, paving the way for greater understanding and social cohesion across diverse cultural and religious backgrounds.
