These sites mimic legitimate businesses and can deceive unsuspecting customers. AI-powered chatbots further add to the deception by interacting with customers and stalling complaints.
Another concerning trend highlighted in the report is the use of AI in job scams. Scammers are utilizing generative AI to create fake job listings, conduct automated interviews, and target job seekers with fraudulent offers. These scams often appear legitimate, making it challenging for job seekers to distinguish between genuine and fake opportunities.
In response to these evolving threats, Microsoft has implemented fraud detection systems across its products and platforms. The company is actively blocking suspicious activities, such as fake tech support attempts, and has introduced new policies to enhance fraud prevention measures.
Microsoft’s Secure Future Initiative aims to proactively address fraud prevention by collaborating with government agencies, law enforcement, and other organizations through the Global Anti-Scam Alliance. By raising awareness about the role of AI in cybercrime and providing guidance on identifying fraudulent activities, Microsoft is working towards creating a safer online environment for consumers.
