Gasoline prices in Illinois have seen a significant decrease over the past week, dropping by 6.2 cents per gallon to an average of $3.33 per gallon. This marks a 6.8-cent decline from a month ago and a 57.1-cent drop compared to the same time last year. According to GasBuddy’s survey of 4,378 stations in the state, the cheapest station in Illinois was priced at $2.83 per gallon, while the most expensive reached $4.49 per gallon.
On a national scale, the average price of gasoline has fallen by 3.4 cents per gallon in the last week, now averaging $3.10 per gallon. This is a 1.8-cent decrease from a month ago and is 54.6 cents lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has also seen a decline, dropping 2.7 cents in the last week to $3.519 per gallon.
GasBuddy compiled this data from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country. The decrease in prices comes as welcome news for consumers amid rising inflation and economic uncertainties.
