In a disappointing game at Emory G. Bauer Field, the Valparaiso University baseball team suffered an 18-3 loss to Illinois State. Valpo started off strong, scoring three runs in the first inning, but Illinois State bounced back with a six-run third inning to take control of the game. Despite their efforts, Valpo struggled to regain momentum and eventually fell to the Redbirds in a seven-inning match.
Valpo’s offense showed promise with ten hits, including standout performances from Austin Amburgey with three hits and Liam Patton and Patrick Ilitch with two hits each. Freshman Michael Kuska also had his first collegiate hit in the game. On the pitching side, sophomore Kaden Kiser had a strong outing with a scoreless ninth inning.
This loss marked Valpo’s largest margin of defeat since 2018. The Beacons will look to bounce back in the final game of the series against Illinois State on Sunday. The game will take place at 1 p.m. and admission is free, with the game streaming on ESPN+.
