Norwegian Subsea’s Multibeam Sonars Upgraded by WASSP

Norwegian Subsea and WASSP have teamed up to integrate Motion Reference Units (MRUs) with multibeam sonar systems, offering enhanced accuracy and performance for offshore applications. The MRUs provide heave accuracy comparable to RTK-enabled systems without the need for RTK infrastructure, allowing for precision depth correction in situations where external corrections are not available. The MRUs are easy to set up, calibrated, and maintenance-free, reducing downtime and providing long-term reliability for users.

The integration of Norwegian Subsea MRUs with WASSP’s multibeam systems has resulted in higher accuracy and performance for sustainable fishing and marine survey markets. According to the companies, the enhanced capabilities provided by the MRUs will benefit applications such as seabed mapping, fishing ground exploration, and underwater object detection in the offshore market.

Nick Fogarty, Senior Product Manager at WASSP, commented on the partnership, stating that Norwegian Subsea’s MRUs have improved their mapping and survey capabilities by providing RTK equivalent depth accuracy without the need for an RTK connection. This cost-effective solution will benefit customers looking for high-performance solutions in the offshore industry.

Fredrik Dukan, CEO of Norwegian Subsea, highlighted the company’s innovative motion compensation technology and noted that the partnership with WASSP will help bring this technology to a wider audience. The collaboration aims to provide professional-grade survey bathymetry independent of RTK availability at a fraction of the cost, benefiting users in various offshore applications.
