The Finance Ministry has issued a warning against unregulated online gaming platforms, urging users, celebrities, and influencers to avoid engaging with them. This crackdown comes just before IPL 2025, with the government taking strict action against 357 foreign gaming websites and seizing 2,400 bank accounts linked to them to prevent tax evasion and protect Indian users from fraud.
The Directorate General of GST Intelligence is investigating around 700 foreign e-gaming companies that have failed to register for GST, with reports of using fake bank accounts for transactions. As part of the crackdown, Rs 126 crore linked to these platforms has been frozen, and three individuals have been arrested.
The government’s efforts to curb illegal gaming platforms and eliminate tax fraud highlight their commitment to ensuring compliance with Indian tax laws and protecting users from financial risks. In light of this, the Finance Ministry has advised caution when promoting or using unregistered foreign gaming websites.
On a different note, Airtel has introduced a new Rs 301 recharge plan ahead of IPL 2025, offering unlimited calls, data, SMS, and a free OTT subscription. Known for its strong network connectivity, Airtel aims to cater to the needs of cricket lovers with this attractive plan.
