Christina Formella, a 30-year-old special education teacher and soccer coach at Downers Grove South High School in Illinois, has been accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old student. Text messages found on the boy’s phone allegedly show Formella professing her love for him and expressing desire to have sex with him. Formella claims that the boy sent the messages to himself from her phone as a form of blackmail. She has been charged with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and one count of criminal sexual assault, and has been released on the condition that she not have contact with anyone under 18 or enter school grounds. Formella denies the allegations and insists that she is the victim of a frame job. The incident came to light when the boy’s mother found the text messages on his phone after purchasing him a new device. Formella and her husband, who were college sweethearts, were recently married in August. Formella has been placed on paid leave from her teaching position.
