Turkey and Azerbaijan to strengthen collaboration in space, science, and technology

Türkiye and Azerbaijan have recently signed a cooperation deal to enhance bilateral relations in space, aviation, science, and technology. The agreement, named “Startech,” was inked between Azerbaijan’s Azercosmos space agency and Türkiye’s Gokmen Space and Aviation Training Center (GUHEM). As part of this collaboration, a delegation of 26 Azerbaijani students from various universities visited leading Turkish defense and tech firms, receiving training at GUHEM.

The partnership between the two countries in space activities has grown stronger, especially after the Teknofest Baku event in 2022 and Azerbaijan hosting the 74th International Astronautical Congress (IAC). Türkiye is set to host the event in 2026, further solidifying space and aviation operations between the two nations.

Elza Samedli from Azercosmos highlighted that the Startech project aims to foster cooperation between Türkiye and Azerbaijan by exploring opportunities in computer, software, and artificial intelligence fields. Mentioning a student who was inspired by Turkish defense technologies, Samedli emphasized the potential for peaceful technology solutions in conflict zones.

Imran Muhtarov from Azercosmos Cosmic Academy stressed the importance of diversifying and strengthening relations between the two countries through knowledge exchange among students and universities. Halit Mirahmetoglu, GUHEM’s general manager, mentioned that Azerbaijani students will continue to visit Türkiye for training on aviation and space technologies, as part of efforts to share Türkiye’s experiences and expertise with other countries.

Overall, the cooperation between Türkiye and Azerbaijan in space and technology signifies a promising future of enhanced bilateral relations and knowledge sharing in these critical sectors.
