Morgan expressed concerns about the potential risks of AI in health care, stating that AI lacks the ability to exercise ethical judgment or recognize when a person is in crisis. He highlighted the need for human oversight in decisions that impact patients’ lives. The bills have support from various organizations, including the Illinois State Medical Society and the Illinois Pharmacists Association, but face opposition from others such as the Illinois Chamber of Commerce. The goal of the legislation is to ensure fairness, accountability, and consumer protection in the use of AI technology in health care. By requiring human review in AI-driven decisions, the bills aim to uphold these principles and protect patients from potentially harmful outcomes.
