House Bill 2503 passed the committee on a 9-4 partisan vote, with plans to amend the language based on stakeholder feedback. Rep. Laura Faver Dias emphasized the importance of teaching students how to use AI responsibly and ethically. The bill also requires the publication of AI tool evaluations for school districts and the provision of guidance and training programs for educators.
If passed, the State Board of Education would be responsible for providing guidance to all school districts and charter schools by the end of the year. The goal is to support the use of AI technology in schools while ensuring that it is used in a safe and responsible manner.
