Crews will begin work on the I-24 Ohio River bridge on Monday, leading to lane restrictions. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) announced that the work will start on March 3 at 7 p.m. The bridge, connecting Metropolis, Illinois, and Paducah, Kentucky, will have one lane in each direction 24/7 until October 14, with a reduced speed limit of 55 mph and width restrictions of 10’6″. Motorists are advised to expect delays and use zipper merging techniques to navigate the work zone safely.
Passenger cars can use the U.S. 45 Ohio River “Brookport” Bridge, while commercial vehicles must detour via the U.S. 51 Ohio River “Cairo” Bridge. The project is scheduled for completion by September 2027, with construction dates for 2026 and 2027 pending announcement. Drivers are urged to plan ahead, avoid distractions, and comply with the speed limit and lane restrictions to ensure safety during the construction period.
