Despite ongoing accusations of mismanagement and corruption, scandal-ridden Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard is confidently seeking reelection in the Chicago suburb. Running against former ally Jason House, Henyard is predicting a landslide victory in the Democratic primary.
Having served as the self-styled “super mayor” since 2021, Henyard’s tenure has been plagued by allegations of mismanagement and corruption, with an FBI investigation at city hall and financial mismanagement leading to a significant decrease in the village’s general fund balance.
Henyard’s conduct has outraged residents, leading to calls for her to step down. Concerns have also been echoed by voters, including former supporters who are looking for change. Many residents believe that Henyard has made Dolton a “joke” and are eager for a new leadership change.
House, a former ally of Henyard, is running on a platform of putting an end to reckless spending and negative national headlines. The winner of the primary will face independent candidate Casundra Hopson in April.
Despite low voter turnout in previous elections, the mayoral race in Dolton is heating up as residents seek to move past the scandals that have plagued the village under Henyard’s leadership. The outcome of Tuesday’s primary will determine the direction Dolton will take moving forward.
