Town President Larry Dominick of Cicero won a sixth term in the mayoral election, defeating challenger Esteban Rodriguez. Dominick, who has been in office for 20 years, received 57% of the votes, while Rodriguez got 43%. Rodriguez ran on issues such as flooding in Cicero and immigration policies. In nearby Berwyn, incumbent Mayor Robert J. Lovero won with 54% of the vote, avoiding a runoff.
In Aurora, incumbent Mayor Richard Irvin was among five candidates running for mayor. The top two vote-getters, Irvin and John Laesch, will face a runoff. Irvin and Laesch have a history of political rivalry. Overall, voter turnout in Cook County was low at just over 20%, with Dolton and Riverdale seeing different levels of participation.
In Dolton, Mayor Tiffany Henyard lost to Trustee Jason House with a turnout of 27% of voters. Riverdale saw only 13% of voter turnout for the village president election. Despite the low turnout, the elections reflected the diversity of candidates and issues in these suburban communities.
