A New Group for Catalonian Science and Technology Studies Created


The Catalan Association of Science and Technology Studies (STS-CAT) has been formed by researchers from various universities and research centers in Catalonia, with the aim of exploring the interactions between science, technology, and society. The association will be officially presented on February 28th with an inaugural lecture by renowned thinker Wiebe E. Bijker. STS-CAT seeks to promote the relevance of science and technology studies in academia and society, through conferences, publications, and educational programs.

Key members of the STS-CAT board include UAB lecturers Joan Moyà and Òscar Coromina, as well as professionals and academics from other universities. The association’s activities will focus on organizing events and promoting the influence of STS on public policy. The inaugural event will feature a lecture by Wiebe E. Bijker, known for his work on the social construction of technology, followed by a round table discussion on current STS practices in Catalonia.

The event is open to the public, with prior registration required. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with leading experts in the field and learn about the latest research in science, technology, and society. STS-CAT aims to create a collaborative community where academics, professionals, and citizens can come together to explore the impact of technology on democracy and society as a whole.
