Madison County, Illinois, has been making a positive impact on the lives of students with disabilities through its registered apprenticeship program. The initiative, started in January 2022, aims to provide real-world job experience to high school students, ultimately leading to full-time employment opportunities. The program has already seen success with four high schools and five employers participating.

Working overnight at the Agency for Community Transit cleaning buses, David’s work ethic and dedication led to his full-time employment with the organization. The program, spearheaded by Madison County Employment and Training, aims to provide students with disabilities with essential job skills to navigate life after high school.
Program officials hope to inspire other counties to adopt similar initiatives and provide opportunities for individuals who have been overlooked. By creating a bridge between students and employers, the program aims to create a win-win situation that benefits both parties and fosters success and growth.
