Microsoft secures three virtual power purchase agreements with EDP Renewables in Illinois and Texas

Microsoft has signed three long-term Virtual Power Purchase Agreements (vPPAs) with EDP Renewables North America for a total of 389MW of power across Illinois and Texas. These agreements are tied to three recently completed utility-scale solar projects totaling 400MW and will provide Microsoft with Renewable Energy Credits (RECs). The projects include the Wolf Run Solar Project, Hickory Solar Project, and Cattlemen II Solar Project. They bring the total US operational portfolio between the two companies to five projects. The Hickory solar farm is also tied to an Environmental Justice PPA (EJ PPA) which contributes funding to organizations promoting equal access to clean air, water, and renewable energy.

Microsoft has signed several other PPAs in recent months, including agreements with National Grid Renewables in Wisconsin, Constellation Energy for a nuclear power plant in Pennsylvania, and Leeward Renewable Energy for two solar farms in Texas. These agreements demonstrate Microsoft’s commitment to clean energy and support for sustainable development in communities across the United States.
