Veterans Honor Flight of Southern Illinois ‘Mission 14’ flight receives full funding from generous donors

Three generous donors contributed a total of $112,000 to support the Veterans Honor Flight of Southern Illinois’ Mission 14 trip to Washington, D.C., on May 6, 2025. Gary Nelson, a U.S. Army veteran, decided to donate to help other veterans have a healing experience similar to the one he had on a previous Honor Flight. Bill Bonan, a Vietnam Veteran and Chairman of the Board of Peoples National Bank, donated to help those who served in Vietnam receive the recognition they deserved. The third donor, Randy Rubenacker of Rocking for a Cause Incorporated, believes in supporting military veterans through the power of music.

Bryan Questelle, the board chairman for the Veterans Honor Flight of Southern Illinois, expressed gratitude for the donors’ generosity, especially during tough economic times. The community is invited to attend a Welcome Home Celebration for the Veterans returning from their trip. The Honor Flight aims to provide opportunities for veterans to visit memorials in DC that were built in their honor.
