Three-star linebacker Kaedyn Cobbs announced his commitment to the Illini in a video posted on social media. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound linebacker from Denton, Texas chose Illinois over several other schools, including Nebraska, Texas Tech, Baylor, SMU, and Oklahoma State.
Cobbs had an impressive junior season, finishing with 74 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, and five sacks. He also showed versatility by contributing on offense, rushing for 321 yards and seven touchdowns in the postseason. With Cobbs’ commitment, Illinois now has nine players in its 2026 recruiting class, which currently ranks No. 8 overall according to 247 Sports.
Head coach Bret Bielema’s recruiting efforts seem to be paying off, as the program continues to attract top talent. This is a significant improvement from Bielema’s early recruiting classes, which ranked much lower nationally.
