Walk in Ottawa to raise funds and awareness for the homeless during the Coldest Night of the Year – Shaw Local

The Coldest Night of the Year Walk fundraiser is set to return to Ottawa on Saturday, Feb. 22, following a successful first year. The evening walk aims to raise awareness and funds for individuals experiencing homelessness in the Illinois Valley area and is part of a national movement in the U.S. and Canada. Participants can register starting at 4 p.m. and the walk will begin at 5 p.m. from the Jordan block, covering a 1-mile route. Hot chocolate, water, protein bars, and other items will be provided to participants, and there will be opportunities to meet with executive teams from shelters in the area.

Participants can earn incentives for fundraising, including a toque for raising $150 or more and a limited edition sweatshirt for raising $500 or more. The walk seeks to raise awareness of the challenges faced by homeless individuals and funds essential services for those without stable housing in the community. Executive director Carol Alcorn emphasized the importance of the walk as a statement of empathy and action. Registration, team creation, and donations can be made through the Coldest Night of the Year website or by contacting Illinois Valley PADS directly.
