The Bharath Hospital and Institute of Oncology celebrated World Cancer Day by organizing a rally to raise awareness about the disease. Dr. Raxith Sringeri, a Surgical Oncologist at BHIO, emphasized the need for a holistic approach to fighting cancer that includes physical fitness, mental well-being, and environmental protection. He highlighted the importance of maintaining a balanced diet, regular physical activity, and a healthy weight to reduce the risk of cancer. Dr. Sringeri also pointed out the role of mental health in cancer development and the impact of air pollution on lung cancer, even among non-smokers. The rally, attended by more than 500 students from Teresian College, passed through various locations and ended at the college. The event was organized in collaboration with the Rotaract Club of Teresian College. Participants included faculty members and the principal of Teresian College. Dr. Sringeri’s message of the importance of lifestyle factors and environmental protection in preventing cancer was well-received by the attendees. With the rising number of cancer cases in the country, it is crucial to educate the public about the various factors that contribute to the disease and the steps that can be taken to reduce the risk. The event was a successful initiative to raise awareness and promote a healthier lifestyle for cancer prevention.
