Hundreds of protestors gathered at the Illinois State Capitol to protest President Donald Trump’s administration and Elon Musk. The protest, organized as part of the “50501 movement,” aimed to address a variety of issues including freedom of speech, racial equality, women’s rights, LGBTQ+ rights, public health and safety, gun violence, climate change, and wealth equality.
The protestors held signs and chanted slogans like “dump Trump, deport Elon” and “no Trump, no KKK, no fascist USA” in the rain. Skye Murphy, one of the protestors, stated that the protest was against executive order overreach and in defense of human rights guaranteed by the Constitution.
Political Revolution, a political activist group, issued a statement calling for immediate actions to rectify injustices perpetuated by current leadership, including Trump’s impeachment and investigations into government leaders such as Elon Musk. The group also called for the reversal of executive orders infringing on citizen and human rights, strengthening laws on hate speech, and reinstating diversity and inclusion initiatives.
The protestors expressed their dedication to their cause and stated that they will continue to hold protests until their demands are met. Future protests are planned if necessary.
