Illinois to Experience Winter Weather on Wednesday

A winter weather event is expected to hit Illinois starting Wednesday night, with freezing rain and sleet creating potentially slick conditions. A Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect in the Chicago metro area until Thursday morning, with rising temperatures helping to melt any ice. The Illinois Tollway is preparing by deploying 196 plows to spread salt and de-icing materials to keep roads clear and customers safe. Tollway Executive Director Cassaundra Rouse emphasized driver safety, urging people to slow down, increase distance from other vehicles, and stay alert for changing pavement conditions.

The winter storm is expected to continue through Thursday before tapering off, with a potential for another storm system bringing ice and snow on Saturday. The Tollway will have over 200 staff members working per shift to clear roads, and drivers can call *999 for assistance if their vehicle becomes disabled. Stay safe and be prepared for potentially hazardous road conditions during this winter weather event.
