Cougars’ Defense Crushes Eastern Illinois


The SIUE Cougars showed dominance as they defeated Eastern Illinois 66-41 in a game at First Community Arena. This win moved the Cougars into second place in the Ohio Valley Conference with a 9-4 record. The Cougars’ defense was impressive, allowing only 41 points which set a record for the fewest points allowed in an OVC game. Myles Thompson and Ring Malith both recorded double-doubles in the game. This win also tied a school record for the most OVC wins since joining the league in 2008.

The game started slowly but the Cougars took control in the second half with a 14-4 run, securing their lead over Eastern Illinois. Desmond Polk and Ray’Sean Taylor also contributed to the win, scoring in double figures. SIUE shot 41 percent from the field and 31 percent from three-point range in the game. Their next game is scheduled against Tennessee Tech in Cookeville, Tennessee on Thursday at 7:30 PM.
