Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker is taking a strong stance against individuals who participated in the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol. In a letter obtained by Fox 32 News, Governor Pritzker directed the Department of Central Management Services to consider any job applicants who were involved in the riot as unfit for employment with the state government. Pritzker emphasized that those who attempt to overthrow a government should not serve in government positions, citing the State Personnel Code to reject candidates guilty of infamous or disgraceful conduct.
This directive comes in the wake of President Trump issuing clemencies and pardons for individuals involved in the Capitol attack, sparking criticism from Pritzker. The Governor has been an outspoken critic of Trump, particularly in his handling of crises. The State Personnel Code allows for the rejection of candidates who fail to meet job requirements, have committed infamous conduct, or attempted fraud in the hiring process.
The Governor’s office has not yet commented on the letter, but Pritzker’s message is clear – those who participated in the insurrection at the Capitol will not be welcome in Illinois state government.
