Deloris Bernida Newell, a beloved resident of Waltonville, Illinois, has passed away at the age of 100. She died on January 23, 2025, at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Born in Jefferson County, Illinois, in 1924, Bernida was married to Glen Newell until his death in 2004. She is survived by her two sons, one daughter, seven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Bernida was known for her love of the outdoors, particularly deer hunting, gardening, fishing, and camping. She was a dedicated member of Saint Barbara Catholic Church and cherished her role as a mother and grandmother.
A visitation will be held on January 28, 2025, at Newell Funeral Home in Waltonville, followed by a Funeral Mass at Saint Barbara Catholic Church in Scheller. Bernida will be laid to rest at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois.
