Rapid City Mayor Jason Salamun recently spent his day encouraging the community to give back through two separate donation drives. The first stop was at the Baken Park Family Fare for the Public Works AFSCME Food Drive, where donors were urged to contribute food or cash. The initiative has already collected over 2,100 pounds of food and $1,100 for Feeding South Dakota, showcasing the generosity of the community. AFSCMW Local President Sean Jewett expressed amazement at the community’s enthusiasm and willingness to help those in need.
Following the food drive, Mayor Salamun headed to Safeway to support the Salvation Army by ringing the bell and collecting donations for an hour. Speaking to the media, he emphasized the importance of giving back and spreading the Christmas spirit within the community. Salamun highlighted the city’s generous spirit and encouraged others to follow his example by participating in charitable activities or donation drives.
The Red Kettle campaign, which benefits the Salvation Army, will continue through Christmas Eve and is still in need of more volunteers to ring the bell and collect donations. Those interested in volunteering can find more information on how to register at registertoring.com. Mayor Salamun’s efforts to inspire giving back in the Rapid City community have been met with positive responses, with many residents eager to support local charities and organizations during the holiday season.
