At Millennium Park, a 53-foot Colorado Blue Spruce, donated by a Logan Square family, became the centerpiece of a jubilant gathering, glowing brightly as fireworks lit up the night sky.

The ceremony commenced at 6 p.m., attracting holiday revelers who filled the park early in the day, ice skating and soaking in the cheerful atmosphere. Attendees voiced their excitement, with local residents and visitors alike expressing joy in the vibrant holiday ambiance. “It’s great. It’s Christmas,” stated Les Hanley, encapsulating the festive mood.

Nearby, the Christkindlmarket in Daley Plaza buzzed with energy, offering warm snacks and festive drinks in stocking-shaped mugs. Visitors such as Georgia Rucker remarked on the joyful atmosphere, while Texas residents Ashleen Sparks and Janice Hodges felt the holiday spirit enveloping the city. Even Thilo Ziegenhagen from Germany praised the market, highlighting its charm.

Celebratory activities extended beyond the park, with the Palmer House Hotel unveiling its grand Christmas tree, while Aurora’s Winter Lights Fest featured a dazzling parade and drone show. The excitement is set to continue with the Magnificent Mile Lights Festival Parade expected to draw hundreds of thousands on Saturday.

Local residents like Michonda Tarver and Kayswanna McCoy emphasized the significance of togetherness and the joy of the season, underscoring Chicago’s vibrant holiday spirit.
