Press Release: No. 22 Illinois Women’s Basketball Prepares for Matchup Against Oregon State
Champaign, IL – As the No. 22 Illinois women’s basketball team gears up for a home game against Oregon State on Friday night, the Illini aim to continue their strong start, boasting a 4-0 record. Coach Shauna Green looks forward to building on the team’s impressive performance in their last outing, where they recorded 26 assists in a decisive 94-25 victory over Le Moyne.
Illinois will be counting on the leadership of its five senior starters, including Adalia McKenzie, who leads with 14.3 points per game, and Kendall Bostic, contributing an impressive 14.8 points per game. Genesis Bryant, who suffered a right ankle sprain in the previous game, is expected to return, adding depth to the lineup.
Oregon State, currently 1-3, has struggled in their early season, facing a series of tough defeats, including an 80-52 loss against Northwest Nazarene and a recent 79-60 setback against Arizona State. The Beavers are looking to find their footing after losing key players in the offseason. Senior guard Catarina Ferreira, however, showed promise with a career-high 22 points and 11 rebounds in her last game.
The matchup will showcase height mismatches as Oregon State features a tall frontcourt with players standing as tall as 6-foot-7. Coach Green emphasized the need for her team to focus on up-tempo play and secure rebounds to effectively execute their offensive strategy.
The Illini will host the Beavers at the State Farm Center in Champaign, with a live broadcast available on BTN Plus. As the teams face off for the second time ever since their last meeting in 1996, Illinois aims to extend its winning streak in what promises to be an exciting contest.
