Trump reportedly mulling over loyalist Kelly Loeffler for agriculture secretary – live updates from Trump administration

Former Georgia Republican Senator Kelly Loeffler is expected to be nominated by Donald Trump as the new agriculture secretary, according to reports from CNN and The Hill. Loeffler, who co-chairs Trump’s inauguration events, lost her Senate seat in 2021 to Democratic Senator Raphael Warnock. Trump is set to meet with Loeffler at Mar-a-Lago on Friday afternoon to discuss the appointment.

In other news, Melania Trump has appointed Haley Harrison, a longtime aide, as her new chief of staff ahead of her husband Donald Trump’s second term in the White House. Harrison, who has been part of the First Lady’s team for the past seven years, will oversee and manage the East Wing’s team and liaise with other parts of government.

Meanwhile, the support for Pam Bondi, Trump’s pick for attorney general, continues to grow among Republicans. Senator John Cornyn of Texas called it an “excellent nomination,” while Senator Mitt Romney said Bondi will be a “highly capable leader at DOJ.” The Senate judiciary chair, Chuck Grassley, also praised Bondi as an experienced prosecutor who effectively led Florida’s Attorney General’s office for eight years.

In a statement filled with falsehoods, the Trump campaign hailed a New York judge’s decision to grant Trump permission to seek dismissal of his hush money criminal case as a “decisive win.” The campaign falsely claimed the case was a “hoax” and reiterated Trump’s unfounded claims of victory and witch hunts against him.
