Southern Illinois Swimming and Diving Teams Set for Purdue Invitational
CARBONDALE, Ill. — The Southern Illinois men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams are gearing up to compete at the prestigious Purdue Invitational slated for November 21-23 in West Lafayette, Indiana. Events will take place at the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center, with preliminaries beginning at 10 a.m. and finals starting at 5 p.m. daily. Fans can follow live results via the Meet Mobile app.
The Invitational will see participation from six teams: Southern Illinois, Purdue, Grand Canyon, McKendree, along with women’s squads from Florida International and Illinois State. With past records being shattered and commendable performances under their belts, the Salukis are heading into the meet with momentum.
Recently, Southern Illinois showcased their prowess by clinching first place at the A3 Performance Invitational, where both the men’s and women’s teams excelled. The Salukis set an impressive total of 10 new records, including eight Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) benchmarks and two program records. Notable highlights came from Alex Santiago, who established new MVC records in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle, and Olivia Herron, who set a record in the 200-yard breaststroke, along with two program records in the 200 IM and 400 IM. Additional MVC records were broken by Henrique Pacheco in the 400 IM and Benedek Andor in the 200 IM.
