Illinois Green Ribbon Schools Award Application Period Opens

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WIFR) – The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) in collaboration with the Illinois Green Alliance has officially launched the application period for the prestigious Illinois Green Ribbon Schools Award. This initiative aims to highlight schools that demonstrate excellence in sustainability practices across three critical areas: reducing environmental impact and costs, promoting health and wellness, and providing comprehensive environmental education.

Schools that excel in these criteria will have the opportunity to showcase their commitment to creating a healthier environment for students and the community. The winners of this competition will be announced on Earth Day, April 22, 2025. Furthermore, all top applicants will receive national recognition, emphasizing the importance of sustainable practices in Illinois education.

Interested schools are encouraged to prepare their application materials, which are due by 5 p.m. on December 20, 2024. For more information and to access the application materials, schools can visit the Illinois State Board of Education’s official website.

This award serves as an important platform for promoting environmental sustainability within educational institutions, encouraging schools to adopt eco-friendly practices that not only benefit their immediate communities but also contribute to broader environmental goals. As the application period unfolds, the ISBE and Illinois Green Alliance look forward to receiving applications from schools eager to make a positive impact on their environments and to be recognized for their efforts.
