(AP) – The No. 8 Alabama Crimson Tide secured a thrilling 100-87 victory against No. 25 Illinois on Wednesday night at the Legacy Arena, showcasing their resilience and depth in a rematch of last season’s Elite Eight teams. Grant Nelson led the Crimson Tide with 23 points, while Aden Holloway contributed 18 points. Freshman standout Labaron Philon added significant support with 16 points, nine assists, and seven rebounds, compensating for a rare off-night from preseason All-American Mark Sears, who failed to score before leaving the game early.
In a fast-paced contest, Alabama opened with a series of impressive plays, highlighted by Nelson hitting three consecutive 3-pointers. Illinois’s Will Riley emerged as their leading scorer with 18 points, supported by Kylan Boswell’s 17 points and Kasparas Jakucionis’s 15.
