Lockport DMV Set to Close on November 25th
Lockport, IL – The Illinois Secretary of State has announced the permanent closure of the DMV facility located at 1029 – 31 E. Ninth St., effective Monday, November 25th. The decision follows the failure to reach a new lease agreement between the Secretary of State’s office and the building owner and is backed by data indicating that the Lockport location serves fewer customers compared to other DMVs in the Chicago area. In fact, it ranks as the lowest in customer volume among the 30 area DMVs, likely due to its proximity to the Joliet and Orland Park facilities.
In preparation for the closure, all employees from the Lockport DMV will be retained and redeployed to nearby locations to ensure continuity of service. The last operating day will be November 25th, with hours set from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Following the shutdown, Lockport residents are encouraged to utilize alternative DMV services at the Joliet location, situated at 201 S. Joyce Road, or the Orland Park site at 14807 S. Ravinia Ave. Additionally, the Secretary of State’s office offers a range of DMV services online, including driver’s licenses, state ID applications, and vehicle registration renewals. For detailed information on available online services, residents can visit ilsos.gov.
To assist customers in finding nearby DMV facilities, the Secretary of State’s office has also recommended visiting their DMV Facility Finder tool, ensuring that residents continue to have access to essential services post-closure.
