Republicans in 2024 election aim to remove State’s Attorney Eric Rinehart and gain control of Lake County, Illinois with Mary Cole leading the charge

With the election just 16 days away, Democrats in Lake County, Illinois are working hard to turn the historically red county into a blue stronghold. Governor JB Pritzker rallied supporters in Highwood, emphasizing the importance of knocking on doors and making phone calls to get out the vote.

The key race in Lake County is for the State’s Attorney position, where Democrat Eric Rinehart is facing a tough challenge to hold on to the seat he won four years ago, becoming the first Democrat in 40 years to do so. Rinehart highlighted his accomplishments in reducing crime rates and winning jury trials, while Republicans argue that his opponent, Mary Cole, would be a stronger candidate due to her more moderate approach.

The Republican Party in Lake County is shifting towards more moderate candidates who support gun control and abortion rights, distancing themselves from former President Donald Trump. However, Pritzker believes that Democrats have the edge in terms of enthusiasm and organization when it comes to getting out the vote.

Early voting in Lake County is set to expand to 18 locations, including the Highwood library, starting Monday at 9 a.m. Both parties are gearing up for a tight race, with Democrats working hard to maintain their momentum and Republicans aiming to make gains in the county.
