Man Charged with Killing Doctor in the Presence of Their 3-Year-Old Daughter in Barrington, Illinois

Press Release: Barrington Man Charged with Murder in Doctor’s Fatal Shooting

BARRINGTON, Ill. (CBS) – William Zientek, 46, has been formally charged with first-degree murder following the tragic shooting death of Dr. Olga Duchon, a prominent endocrinologist, over the weekend. Dr. Duchon, 42, was known for her expertise and had recently participated as a speaker in a discussion organized by the Ukrainian Medical Association on weight loss medication.

During Zientek’s first court appearance, prosecutors disclosed that the shooting occurred in front of the couple’s 3-year-old daughter. They allege that Zientek lured Duchon to his Barrington home under the pretense of having a face-to-face conversation. Once inside, he reportedly struck her in the head with a baseball bat, fracturing her skull, before shooting her in the chest.

Authorities were able to track Duchon’s movements using the camera from her Tesla, which played a crucial role in the investigation. Zientek subsequently called the police, admitting to the shooting but claiming self-defense, asserting that Duchon had a weapon.

According to court records, Zientek had previously reported the gun used in the attack as stolen over three years ago. After their relationship ended in 2021, Duchon had made efforts to ensure Zientek’s firearms were taken away, filing for an order of protection in November 2021 due to fears for her and her daughter’s safety.

At the hearing, the judge ordered Zientek to remain in custody without bail, prohibiting any contact with members of Duchon’s family, including his daughter. He is scheduled to return to court next month as the case progresses.
