Detroit Mercy Dominates Panthers in 5-1 Victory


Eastern Illinois men’s soccer team faced a tough 5-1 defeat against University of Detroit Mercy on Monday night. This loss brings the Panthers record to 1-1-0 for the 2024 season. Despite a slow start in the first half, with Detroit Mercy taking a 3-0 lead, Casey Welage assisted Jackson Liley for EIU’s only goal of the match in the first half. However, Detroit Mercy continued their strong performance in the second half, scoring two more goals to secure their victory. The Panthers were unable to break through the Detroit Mercy defense, only managing two shots on goal. Quinn Tews played a strong game in goal for the Titans, allowing only one goal. The physicality of the match led to a total of five yellow cards and 12 fouls for Eastern Illinois. The team will look to regroup and improve upon their performance in their next game against Purdue Fort Wayne on August 29th at 5 pm. The Panthers will aim to bounce back and earn a win to improve their record for the season.
