In a recent decision, the Illinois Supreme Court upheld a lower court ruling that blocked a change in the state’s election law that would have prevented 14 candidates from being on the ballot for the 2024 general election. The ruling stated that the new “anti-slating” legislation signed by Governor J.B. Pritzker in May, which changed the rules for ballot access in the middle of an election cycle, violated the candidates’ constitutional right to access the ballot. The Liberty Justice Center filed a lawsuit against the State Board of Elections, leading to the court’s decision.
In other news, a 16-state coalition led by Texas, but not including Illinois, has filed a lawsuit against the Biden Administration to stop a widespread amnesty plan for foreign nationals living in the U.S. illegally for more than 10 years. The coalition argues that the plan violates federal law and ignores the Constitution.
