Illinois’ Shameful Politicians: The Dishonor Roll

The Chicago Tribune has compiled a list of around 200 convicted, indicted, or notorious public officials from Illinois’ history of corruption. From a small-town official involved in a massive municipal fraud to a Chicago mayor with ties to Al Capone, these individuals have contributed to the state’s reputation for political sleaze. The lists include Chicago and Cook County officials, state and national representatives, suburban and downstate local officials, and judges. The Tribune’s “Dishonor Roll” draws from its archives, court records, and books on Illinois corruption. The newspaper is offering a one-month subscription to its archives through a partnership with Newspapers.com™. As new politicians inevitably find themselves embroiled in scandal, the Tribune plans to update the lists to reflect the ongoing culture of corruption in Illinois.
