Illinois mayor embroiled in scandal ejects residents from public meeting amid government credit card suspension.

Residents in Dolton, Illinois, expressed their frustrations during a board meeting with embattled Mayor Tiffany Henyard. The meeting was marked by interruptions, disorganization, shouting, and ejections, with attendees required to walk through metal detectors. Several women were escorted out by police, leading to accusations of being “out of order.”

Critics have dubbed Henyard the “worst mayor in America,” citing allegations of financial misdeeds and weaponizing police raids. The mayor is also under FBI investigation for corruption and faces scrutiny over a cancer charity. Former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot was hired to investigate Henyard, with results expected to show the village is in deep debt.

During the meeting, a credit card spending freeze was approved, limiting usage to essential purchases. Trustees also fired the acting police chief and other employees to cut spending, although they reportedly showed up for work the next day. Additionally, two Chicago federal criminal defense attorneys were present in a closed executive session with Henyard.

Overall, residents expressed frustration with the state of the village and the mayor’s actions, with one describing feeling “hoodwinked, bamboozled, and led astray.” Dolton, with a population of over 20,000, is located in Cook County and considered a suburb of Chicago. The tense meeting reflects ongoing concerns about governance and transparency in the village.
