Local partnership provides Indigenous communities with refurbished technology

Local partnership between Greentec, an e-waste recycling company in Cambridge, Ontario, and Makhos Solutions Inc, an Indigenous-led company based in Neyaashiinigmiing near Wiarton, aims to provide refurbished technology to rural Indigenous communities. The initiative, approaching its one-year anniversary, has already benefited many rural communities across the country.

The donated electronics will help students in particular, especially those in remote communities who have to travel long distances for school. The partnership not only provides meaningful and sustainable employment for Indigenous people but also helps in reducing electronic waste and preventing hazardous materials from ending up in landfills, therefore positively impacting the environment.

Tony Perrotta, founder and president of Greentec, mentioned that donations have already been made to communities in Curve Lake and Nawash for smart boards and laptops to aid in learning. The goal of the partnership is not just to provide technology but to make a difference in the lives of Indigenous people and reduce barriers they face in accessing resources.

Nicholas Saunders, Indigenous director of Makhos Solutions Inc, highlighted the importance of taking care of the environment for future generations by repurposing electronics and reducing waste. Anyone interested in helping with the partnership can contact Greentec through their website. These simple donations can have a significant impact on Indigenous communities and contribute to a more sustainable future.
