Apple’s Artificial Intelligence features will not be included in the upcoming iPhone software update.

Apple Inc. is set to launch its Apple Intelligence AI features as part of software updates coming in October, following the initial release of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 in September. The new timing allows for more bug fixing and testing of the AI features. Developers will have access to Apple Intelligence for early testing via iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 betas, which is an atypical move for Apple.

The decision to delay the AI features was made in order to ensure a smoother consumer release and to address concerns over feature stability. Apple Intelligence includes features such as prioritizing notifications, web page and voice note summaries, improvements to Siri, and integration of OpenAI’s ChatGPT. However, not all features will be available upon launch, with some updates planned throughout 2024 and 2025.

The company hopes that Apple Intelligence will help it compete in the generative AI space and drive sales of the upcoming iPhone 16 models, which are not expected to have major design changes. The AI features, along with other software enhancements, will be key selling points for the new iPhones.

The roll-out of Apple Intelligence will also extend to Mac computers with Apple chips and eventually to the Vision Pro device. Apple is betting on AI to be a game-changer in the industry and is taking strategic steps to ensure a successful launch and integration of the new features.
