On Saturday, a 3-month-old infant boy and a 21-year-old man were injured in a shooting on Chicago’s Southwest Side in Little Village. The victims were inside a vehicle when two unknown male offenders shot at them, with the baby being shot in the upper chest and the man being shot four times. Both were taken to the hospital, initially reported to be in critical condition, but the baby’s condition was later stabilized.
Witnesses described hearing gunshots and seeing people running for cover as the violence erupted in broad daylight. The shooting was believed to be gang-related, although a motive is still under investigation. The offenders fled the scene after the shooting and no one has been taken into custody.
The family in the car, which included the infant, escaped serious injury, with the mother escaping unharmed. The car, riddled with bullets, was found not far from the scene of the shooting. The community, shocked by the violence, expressed concern and fear over the incident.
Police are continuing to investigate the shooting and are urging anyone with information to come forward. The incident is a reminder of the ongoing issue of gun violence in Chicago and the need for efforts to address the root causes of such incidents. The safety of residents in the city remains a top priority for authorities.
