FIFA has found officials responsible for offensive behavior and violating fair play principles in connection with the CSA Women’s representative team’s drone usage during the OFT. New Zealand’s women’s soccer team reported a drone flying overhead their practice, leading to a support staff member of Canada’s team being detained by police. Canada’s coach, Priestman, apologized to New Zealand and removed herself from a match to show commitment to integrity. Canada then defeated New Zealand 2-1 in a match on Thursday. The Canadian Olympic Committee announced Priestman would be removed for the remainder of the games and assistant coach Andy Spence would take over. This decision was made after learning of previous drone use against opponents pre-dating the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Canada Soccer’s CEO and general secretary, Kevin Blue, confirmed the decision in a statement.
